Youth peaceMaker pod program
Our Youth Peacemaker Pod program provides violence prevention services for youth ages 14-18 in the communities located in Central and Southeast Thornton Townships.
- Youth will go through an intake process
which will include an assessment that will
reveal risk factors, academic strengths,
weaknesses and other important factors.
- 5-10 youth will be enrolled in a pod. These small pods allow us to have one-on-one attention for each student. It furthermore allows for the students to form a bond and begin making peace even within their pod.
- Our nearly 10,000 sq. ft. facility allows for multiple pods simultaneously while allowing for social distancing and all recommended COVID precaution measures.
- Youth will meet at least 2 days a week with a dedicated “coach”. This will include in-person and remote services. Our coaches are guiding and bringing out what is already in our youth.
During the 12 weeks we go in depth into:
Youth are grounded in an understanding of holistic “peace” meaning nothing missing and nothing broken.
Youth develop basic capacity to notice an absence of peace internally, in others, and in the community.
Youth develop basic skills of restoring internal and interpersonal peace through conflict resolution.
Youth develop skills to speak and act in the interest of their own peace (self-advocacy) and the peace of others [advocacy for others.
Youth will identify one problem (a place where peace is missing) and a creative solution (a peacemaking approach) This project will utilize the whatever the youth bring to the table, whether it be music, writing, singing, videography, rapping, visual arts, etc.
