OUR MISSION.
River Oaks Community Education and Development Corporation (ROC ED) is committed to providing children and youth a safe, educational and fun place to learn, grow and socialize.
Our vision is to assist youth in gaining confidence to affect positive change in their community and world.
Purpose
— Our Community
About us
ROC ED is located Thornton Township, Illinois in southeastern Cook County. The township is identified as strong, vibrant and family oriented, attracting many former residents of the city of Chicago.
To improve the educational preparedness of children within our community, ROC ED began providing before and after school services in August 2010. ROC ED has since expanded its programming to provide summer enrichment, Youth Peacemaker Pods for high school students, and e-learning assistance. ROC ED has engaged our community by offering holiday music and spoken word recitals, food drives, violence-prevention activities, festivals, craft bazaars, COVID-19 testing and vaccinations and other special events.

FOCUS
— OUR FOCUS
4 CORE ESSENTIALS

Academic Enrichment
Our programs give children additional opportunities to extend learning outside the classroom. Children complete homework and school projects and are given opportunities to advance their learning through interactive lessons and projects.

Health & Fitness
Children in our program learn how our body systems work to keep us healthy. We utilize both indoor and outdoor recreation to engage children in physical fitness activities. Children participate in lessons targeting how nutrition and healthy eating affect our overall physical health and strength.

Life Skills Development
Children in our programs have engaged in multiple enrichment activities ranging from cooking/baking, sewing, financial literacy and entrepreneurship training, and environmental learning. Children participate in targeted activities aimed at strengthening their character and building their social and emotional learning capacity.

Cultural Awareness
Children are introduced to the richness of other cultures through fun and interactive sessions that include language introduction, songs, crafts and food, and field trips.
